Reese Meredith, a merchant and friend of George Washington, Like his father, Meredith was well-to-do and well-connected. He married into the influential Cadwalader family, and was the brother-in-law of George Clymer, a prominent Pennsylvania politician who

signed the Declaration of Independence and after the war became an important Federalist leader in the state. Appointed a major and lieutenant colonel of the Third Battalion of Associators in 1776, known as the "Silk Stocking" Battalion because its members came from leading Philadelphia families, Meredith fought bravely enough at the battles of Trenton, Princeton, Brandywine, and Germantown to win promotion in 1777 to brigadier general of the Pennsylvania Militia. Resigning from the army in 1778, he served three terms in the Pennsylvania Assembly (1778-1783), and in

1786 was elected to the Confederation Congress.

 It is said in two sources of historical relevance that famed chemist and proponent of the JaCobins, Joseph Priestley was used as an agent or intermediary between the wurts brothers and the original owners of the land. Priestey Is also the discoverer of the  combustion reaction and several elements on the periodic table including Oxygen. He was part of a secret society, the Lunar Men, with Darwin’s grandfather, Erasmus Darwin, Joseph Galton, Josiah Wedgewood, James Watt, jsut to name a few of his fellows Lunar Men of Birmingham. Priestley fled to London and never returned to Birmingham. The Lunaticks provided financial support and equipment, allowing Priestley to continue his scientific work. But as the political climate grew worse in 1792 and 1793, Priestley prepared to emigrate. In April 1794 he and his wife abandoned England for Pennsylvania. Soon after, Wedgwood learned he and like-minded men were to be marked for imprisonment if the French succeeded in landing on British shores.

But that worry was soon put aside for a greater one. In November, Wedgwood fell seriously ill. On New Year's Day he slipped into a coma and died two days later.there is a grave for him near his final home in Northumberland County NEPA.

His 14-year tenure as a four star general on active duty is the second longest at that rank in the history of the U.S. Army, after General William T. Sherman who held that rank from 1869 to 1884. He was the only person in history to serve as Army Chief of Staff, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and as Supreme Allied Commander for NATO.

Lemnitzer was born on August 29, 1899, in Honesdale, Pennsylvania.[1] 1423 west street e graduated from Honesdale High School in 1917.

He then entered the United States Military Academy at West Point, from which he graduated in 1920 with a commission as a second lieutenant in the United States Army Coast Artillery Corps.[2]

Accoridng to the biography he commissioned to be written about his life, he did not do anything in military for first 20 years. First action allegedly came during ww2. He advanced quickly after that because Eisenhower himself picked Lemnitzer up to rank of general

Lyman Louis Lemnitzer was a United States Army general who served as the fourth chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1960 to 1962.

“In the White House, he (JFK) fought—and defeated—his most determined military foes, just across the Potomac: the members of the Pentagon’s Joint Chiefs of Staff. “Here was a president who had no military experience at all, sort of a patrol-boat skipper in World War II,” Joint Chiefs Chairman Lyman Lemnitzer later said of Kennedy. Mutual respect, from the first, was in short supply.”

Last fall, the Society announced the completion of a granite memorial to General Lemnitzer, which stands outside the museum at 810 Main Street. Paula Roos led a committee to establish the memorial. A dedication of the memorial is expected in 2021.
